Maabus Trailer (3/2/1995)

Seeing the new Game Dungeon episode about Maabus brought back weird memories of finding this trailer on a “1000 Free Games!” CD.

Specifically, this seems to be a GAME EMPIRE Volume II disc by SoftKey. Even though we bought this in 1998 or 1999, most of the files are from 1995 or earlier. This is the only game trailer on that disc, all the other videos are weird clips about having better posture.

Do you think they actually paid the music licensing rights to use “Think About The Way” by Ice MC in this trailer? Somehow I don’t think they did.

  • It seems you’ve come across a trailer for the 1995 PC game Maabus, now things are beginning to make sense. More later.

  • OMG I've been looking for this for such a long time. I remembered very little about it, and was even searching for the incorrect song until today. I don't even remember where I got the video originally except that it must have been on some PC CD somewhere. Turns out I did have that "Game Empire" disc with tons of DOS games on it, so that must have been it. Thanks for posting this!

…I've got to get that disc again…

  • I remember seeing this trailer on some really old cover disc for a PC magazine… probably PC Gamer? I'll admit, this looked impressive back then.

  • I like the concept here. It doesn't take Intense graphics and smooth movements to make a game… As long as the game submerges the player in a completely serene world full of exploration. This reminds me of the old 3D PS1 games and that gives me a happy feeling knowing that people appreciate the old way of gaming. No graphics to worry about just fun for the players.
