Released in the year 2000, Aconcagua is a survival/adventure game only released in Japan for the Sony PlayStation console.
In the fictional South American country of Meruza, a woman named Pachamama leads a revolutionary movement against the cruel and oppressing dictatorship currently installed in her country. On the way back to her homeland, a tale of tragedy and survival unfolds as Pachamama’s plane becomes targeted by terrorists and crashes in-transit. Pachamama, along with some of the passengers, miraculously survive the crash and thus the gameplay begins.
Unlike the majority of point-and-click adventure games, Aconcagua lets the player control a group of five individuals, and in this case, the survivors. The five survivors, Pachamama, Katoh, Steve, Julia and Lopez (once acquired) can be selected at any time during the game by simply tapping a button. Each of the survivors is unique and their individual skills will be tested in order to overcome the many obstacles and situations presented in the game.
As previously stated, while the game was only released in Japan, it does feature English voice-overs which help a non-Japanese speaker get a grip on the story. While the voice-overs are in English, the menus and the on-screen text remains in Japanese.

It's playstation and not psx.Sony was going to put psx but managed to solve the problem of the brand of the game
This game definitely needs english translation;-) playable on PS1 for sure. I can´t understand why Sony decided to unrelease such ''western-looking'' game in America or in Europe. And it´s funny that voice is dubbed in english although it´s Japan only. Take a chance someone and let make a fan translation of this original survival game!
This game definetly needs a remake for the ps3/4.
jajajaja es chistoso ver a la india argentina "pachamama" como superviviente

Each year, the pulitzer prize is awarded to he who reveals the most truth. lol
ni tenia idea que este juego existia xd y eso que soy Chileno
I think I can address this. In Japan, it's actually not that uncommon for games with non-Japanese characters to be voiced in the language appropriate to their settings (or English, if that language is unknown). Quite a few big-name games were voiced in English even in their original Japanese versions, including Resident Evil (which explains a lot, as I'm sure you can imagine!), Devil May Cry and Clock Tower. In general, the Japanese love using English for its "exotic" foreign look and sound.
Wow. The graphics are actually very good for PSX.
So is this easily playable without any knowledge in Japanese?
Actually Aconcagua is the highest mountain peak in South America and it's in Argentina
Actually, the game was entitled after the Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas, located in the province of Mendoza, Argentina. As a matter of fact, the setting is in the fictional country of Meruza, which was named after the aforesaid province.
Aconcagua is the name of a river in Chile, and it's origin is in Los Andes mountain chain.
Pachamama it's the name that Inca (native's from Peru) people gives to "mother earth"
Great point & click adventure indeed. The cutscenes in real time graphics are very well made.Sometime could be a hard to get what to do because the japanese written.Luckily I know some bit,so I can sort out through trials efforts though. 😉
Am still almost at the beginning,in fact, lol! 😛
@m14g many japanese games have english voices, even if they are only released in japan. it's somehow considered "cool" and "hip" 😉
@shalomamigos lol
"If you reveal the truth…you will win the pulitzer prize."
@m14g I'm the wrong person to answer that as I don't know why. On the other hand, I can tel you that I'm glad it's this way as it's a great game.
